Looking for ways to serve your peers and community for Thanksgiving? Best Koast hit the streets and got some great ideas for you to get you and your families involved this holiday season – thank you to those that reached out with ideas. We hope to help everyone to have a full belly on Thanksgiving, and focus on how we can make Thanksgiving special for others, not just our own families. We look forward to serving our local San Clemente peers and families during this Thanksgiving Holiday. Also read on below about how ‘support local’ means more than just shopping with your wallet.

LOCAL. COMMUNITY. SUPPORT. By Anitra Brase
Holidays are quickly approaching, shopping is around the corner and it’s a time for giving. We all know reasons why it’s so important to support local businesses, and I’m hoping most of you [Local Business Owners] are going to participate in Black Friday so your community can continue to support you. In addition, I hope your store participates in Small Business Saturday if your community is running a campaign this year. If not, consider partnering up with some nearby businesses and starting a campaign of your own.
With so many tragic events and natural disasters that have surrounded us in recent months, it’s incredibly important to be mindful of supporting local efforts and events within your community to keep your community strong. Local support and keeping up to date on what is happening in your community can strengthen your community as well as connect you with like-minded people. This is something we do for the greater good; not just for networking, not to find new business, but to serve without asking or expecting anything in return.
Serving just feels good. It’s good for the soul. Give back. Give your time, not just your dollars. By becoming a servant leader, you will increase engagement, you can build better team relationships and you might event find local talent for your [local business] store. Please find ways to get active in your community! Sign up for hunger walks, Turkey Trots, volunteer at a soup kitchen on Thanksgiving or find other local events that are raising money and awareness for an important cause. Get your teams and your families involved.
There are lots of places you can go for ideas on how to serve & support your local communities including:
- Local Chamber of Commerce
- Local Newspapers / Magazines
- org or ready.gov/volunteer
- YMCA, Boys & Girls Club, Big Brothers / Big Sisters
- Kiwanis club, Optimist Club or Rotary Club Groups
Take a look around your community, county or business district. What needs do you see? What meaningful causes are already being supported? What issue or problem is close to your own heart? There is no limit to what the leaders in our communities – you, as business people – can do to make life a little better for everyone if you lend your time and talent to the cause and encourage others to join you.
Your community needs you. It needs your leadership and your acknowledgment that we are in this together. “Support Local” means more than supporting our businesses, it means supporting our PEOPLE. Happy Thanksgiving to you all!
